I have been passionate about the Spanish guitar since my early twenties and after years of learning to play, decided to turn my hand to building. After building several guitars through research and with the assistance of several manuals (such as the extensive Roy Courtnell book), I enrolled with the European Institute of Guitar Making and spent a wonderful time learning my craft in the south of Spain with Stephen Hill and Pablo Requena.
Since then I have been steadily building and selling my guitars while still working a full time day job. I have now switched to guitar building full time, working from my small home workshop in Brighton supplemented by additional machinery workshop space at the Stanmer Craft Museum.
My guitars are generally based around the well established spruce top/Indian rosewood back and sides combination using quality materials (e.g. typically AAA class) and a plantilla and bracing layout similar to the guitars of Hauser. My guitars are typically around 1500g in weight, pitched around F# and are easy and responsive to play. All my guitars are french polished and I am also happy to provide polishing and repairs for customers own guitars.
I feel it is important for a maker to be able to play their instruments and I am a keen guitarist and member (and administrator) of the Brighton Guitar Group - a classical ensemble of around 14 members who perform several times a year.
